Before you start
- A generated website. Start with Create your first website if you do not have one.
- Your logo file and a few photographs of your own work, if you have them.
Work in this order: content, then imagery, then brand. Restyling text you are about to rewrite is wasted effort, and colours look different against real content than against generated placeholder copy.
Rewrite the home page hero first
It is the one thing every visitor reads. Say what you do and for whom, in one line, and make the button say what happens when it is pressed.
- "Get a quote" beats "Submit". "Book a visit" beats "Learn more".
- Click the button to set its Destination type: a page, a section, an address, a phone number or an email address.
Work down each page, correcting facts
Click any heading, paragraph or list item and type. Lists (services, features, questions) have Move up, Move down, Duplicate and Delete controls in the section panel.
Deal with the placeholder sections
Sections that carry trust claims (reviews, certifications, before-and-after results, team members) are generated empty on purpose. Fill them in with real content, or remove them.
- Not ready to fill one in? Use Hide section rather than deleting it, so it is waiting when you are.
Replace the images that matter
Click an image to replace it. Your own photographs of your work, your premises or your team will do more than any stock image.
- Do the hero first; it is the one people actually look at.
- Edit the alternative text in the section panel to describe what the picture shows.
Set your logo
Open Logo in the sidebar with nothing selected. A text logo (your business name in your heading font) is available on every plan, at Small, Medium or Large.
Choose your colours
Under Colors apply one of the presets: Theme default, Ocean, Forest, Sunset, Plum or Slate. Look at a full page afterwards, not just the hero.
Set the typography and the shape
Under Typography choose the heading and body fonts. Then try Corner rounding and Spacing density; those two change how a website feels more than any colour does.
Save, then read the whole website again
Press Save, then narrow your browser window to phone width and read every page top to bottom. Problems that are invisible on a desktop are obvious at 375 pixels.
Final checklist
- The home page hero says what you do and who for.
- Every button says what happens when it is pressed.
- No placeholder review, certification or team section is still empty.
- The hero image is one of yours, or one you would be happy to be judged on.
- You have read every page at phone width.
- You have pressed Save.
