The metadata you already have
Generation writes search metadata for every page: a title, a description and keywords derived from the business you described. Every published website carries it, on every plan, with nothing to configure.
That covers what search engines read about each page. It does not make a page rank: that depends on your content, your business and your competition.
Editing the metadata yourself
A website's settings in your dashboard hold the editable search fields: the meta title, the meta description, keywords, the canonical URL, and switches to keep a website out of search results.
- Meta title: what appears as the clickable line in results. Keep it under about 60 characters.
- Meta description: the summary underneath. Around 150 characters, written for a person rather than for a search engine.
- Canonical URL: the address you want treated as the original when the same content is reachable at more than one.
- Indexing switches: keep a website out of search results while you work on it.
Traffic analytics
Published websites can report their traffic in your dashboard: visitors, page views, where they came from, what devices they used and which pages they read. The figures are measured by Google Analytics.
Getting found, whatever your plan
- Say what you do and where you do it, in the words your customers use, in the first heading of your home page.
- Give each service enough of its own content to be worth finding.
- Fill in the alternative text on your images.
- Keep your business name, address and phone number identical everywhere they appear.
- Connect a domain you own; an address people can remember is worth more than any metadata field.
